Voronet the Sixtine vault of the East
 

Also named "the Sixtine vault of the east ", the church of the monastery of Voronet is one of most beautiful monuments of orthodox rite of the world.

First of all there existed a small vault out of wooden. Raised by Daniil Sihastrul, after having left Putna, to approximately 5 km of Gura Humorului nowadays.

The current church having for Holy owner George, had been rested by Etienne the Large one, in 1488, and had been set up in three months and three weeks.

Pétrus Rares "the piles are wire", had continued work making there build an external gallery. The special blue which prevails among the tone of the frescos, celebrates It "blue of inimitable Voronet", unexplainable, had been added on the initiative of the métropolite Grigore Rosca, in 1547, one year after the death of this Voïvode.

The church is in trifle plan, specific of Moldavian style of Etienne the Large one, and combining elements fortunately Byzantines and Gothic. It is made of an external gallery, with a vault generated by a Roman arch, of a pronaos, a naos square, widened by two circular side apses, and a furnace bridge, according to the orthodox guns.

The system of vaults is harmonious and structured in gothic arches, alternated with the pendentive ones which do it passage in the circular plan of the cupola and the drum of the bell-tower.

At outside, the walls are constant leaves powerful buttresses. The apse of the furnace bridge is decorated with new niches, overcome open-type screen.

The cylindrical bell-tower has four windows and of sixteen niches. The interior fresco, on western wall, a votive table which introduces Etienne the Large one, its wife Voichita, and their Bogdan son and close of entée is represented Daniil Sihastrul and the métropolite Grigore Rosca.

The external gallery is divided into five sections which reproduce the calendar of the Orthodox Church. Scenes represent elements of folklore and aspects of the life daily of the time of the métropolite Grigore Rosca.

The most interesting tables evokes "birth of Jesus" or the shepherd is equipped according to the fashion shepherds Moldavian and "Holy Elie" whose tank is a copy faithful of the carriages to use in this area.However, the splendor of  church it's  giving by the external mural, having covered initial Decorations, realized brick apparent and enameled discs of various colors.

On the southern wall, the scenes follow one another in three registers: "the tree of Jesse" and two planks with ancient philosophers.
The remainder of the frontage presents "the life of Nicolas saint "(12 scenes, three registers)," life and it martyrdom of Jean Saint the young person of Suceava "(12 scenes, two registers), "Holy George embanking the dragon", "life of Saint Antoine the Large one "and" life of Ghersim Saint of The Jordan ".

Two last representations, specific of Voronet, are on the northern wall. However, more full composition is the "last Judgment". This fresco occupies the entire western wall and  famous scenes like "angels with the catches with the devils", "Resurrection deaths and Archangels ".

Among the sinners led to the last judgment, there are many Turkish, the enemies of Moldavia of time formerly; composition having a real character expresses anti-Othman.

The blue of the external frescos, intense, almost alive, suggests the sky and the sea, two ends towards which move almost all the characters of these compositions, like our avid heart of purity.
