Michel the Brave

The late fifteenth century is dominated by the personality of Michael the Brave, who managed, after fierce fighting (Calugareni, Giurgiu), to regain the independence of Walachia.

From septembre1593 on August 9, 1601, Mihai Viteazul reigns over Walachia better known as not (Michael the Brave).

It marks one of the most important moments in the history of medieval Romanian. As one of the greatest head of state and army of his time.

Michael the Brave has reorganized the country to regain its independence. Aware that the Walachia, Transylvania and Moldova are inhabited by the same people he has met under his scepter, trying organizing a powerful and unified, capable of resisting big neighbours.

The union conducted by Michael the Brave in 1600 does not last, given in the first place the interests of neighboring powers grades (Turkey, Poland, Austria), which did not want a strong state in space Carpato Danube.

But it has become to his successors a national ideal, the act a symbolic value in the consciousness of future generations. They will fight for this union of a large unified Romania.
