Avram Iancu - Symbol of Transylvania


Born in Vidra in Apuseni Mountains (Carpathian Mountains of the West) in 1824, son of peasant serving on the territory of Câmpeni.
1837 classes Zlatna gymnasium and high school in Cluj.
1847 Licensing Law. He became a lawyer and part to Targu Mures for an internship at the main court of the Principality of Transylvania.

1848 Avram Iancu arrive accompanied by 10 000 Carpathian mountain of the West (called "motzi") on the Plaine de Blaj or is acclaimed May 15.

This is the moment in which we defined the program of the Revolution of 1848 in Transylvania. The main idea was that the Romanian nation and declares itself independent.

The program brought together 16 articles is stated:
1. Romanian law to be represented in the "diet"
2. the right to have representatives in the administration, justice and the army.
3. The right to meet annually
4. the independence of the Romanian church
5. The abolition of serfdom

On 29 June Avram Iancu is called before a commission arrived in the Carpathian Mountains to the west and accompanied by Austrian military units to quell the revolutionary movement and imprison leaders. Iancu refuses to go there and withdrew to the mountains.

Avram Iancu required in order to wait until the diet of Transylvania has in its composition also Romanians before deciding the union of Transylvania with Hungary.

In 1849 begin negotiations with the Hungarian government and the mountain led by Avram Iancu. The Hungarian armed ignore the armistice and occupied the town of Abrud trying to stop Avram Iancu. They imprison his companions, and Buteanu Dobra, which are executed while thereafter.

June 15 successive struggles between the Hungarian army and mountain Avram Iancu. The Prince Hungarian Kossuth tries continue negotiations. Nicolae Blacescu arrives in the Carpathian Mountains to the west with a peace project.
