The Hutsul
 

or Hutsul, Hutul, Huzul

The name of the race of these horses comes from the name of the Hutsule population living the province from Bucovine and Galicia originating in Ukraine.
One of the most specific races of the horses of Carpates.
They are adapted perfectly to the natural conditions (on the current territory of Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and Romania).

The horse “Hutsul” appeared with the XIII century per crossing of the horse “tarpan” and the “Mongolian” horse introduced by the migratory populations into the area of Bucovine, Galicia (Northern is of Romania).
Its natural habitat are Carpates of the east called “the country of Hustles”.

There remained isolated from other equine populations, this race became very robust and resistant, accustomed A of the very hard climatic conditions.

In 1856 was creates the first stud farm in Romania, in Radauti (Bucovine). A some lines of standards (pure horse) are created: Goral, Hroby, Ousor, Pietrosu and Prislop, the horses were selected to keep the purity of these standards.

In 1933, about thirty Hutsul horses were sent in Czechoslovakia to put the bases of a new stud farm (the Gurgul line).

In 1970 the stockbreeders of horses created a “HUTSUL CLUB” worried by the decline of the race.

In 1982 they created a genealogical register of the race with 50 specimens (individuals) of this area, pure race to increase effective Hutsul horses.

Nowadays the Hutsul horse is high in the stud farm of “Lucina” in Bucovine and Hungary, Slovakia, Ukraine.
The lines of the Hutsul race of today are: Hroby, Goral, Ousor, Pietrosu, they are different between them by obvious appearances.

External physical description


The race presents a rectangular typical side body, a correct conformation, a robust constitution, a nimble temperament, with much of energy. The size varies between 139 -141 cm, a body mass from 400 to 425 kg.

The head is proportional with the remainder of the body, the profile is square or a little concave, with the large eyes, expressive, with the prominent arcades, of the small very mobile ears. The neck is short with a strong musculature, the mane is abundant (with a former peak).
Appearance and dimensions

The garrot is long, broad but unobtrusive, the back and the croup are long, strong muscular.
The chest is broad, the thorax fall and deep, the members are short, with articulations broad and firm, on the level of the tibiae the tufts of hairs of the legs are short the shoes are small, the horn is very hard.
The color is varied between the bai, gray mouse, generally they are streaked, with spots on the legs.
