Liviu Rebreanu 1885 - 1944

Born in Tarlisua, 27 November 1885, son of the teacher of the village school in a family with 14 children.

His father taught at several villages in the Somes Valley: Lapusul Unguresc, Tarlisua, Maieru, Prislop.

His father was concerned about popular literature and collected anecdotes and folktales.

In 1888 the family moved to Maieru, located between Sangeorz and Rodna.

He published in 1920 by Éditions "Viata romaneasca" novel "Ion" greeted with enthusiasm by critics and literary readers.

1928 novel The Forest of Pendu translated into English (1930),
Italian (1930), French (1932), German (1932) Turkish (1942), Spanish (1944) Portuguese (1945), Finland (1946), Hungary (1957) Russian (1959).

In 1928 he was appointed Director of the National Theater of Bucharest.
1929 winner of National Award for prose, he published the novel "Craisoruo" evocation of peasant revolt in Transylvania Horia.

1931 he published his notes from trips to Paris, Rome, Berlin (Cities)
