Ciprian Porumbescu “Tricolour” the Rumanian national anthem


Born on October 14, 1853 in Sipotele Sucevei in Bucovine.

He began his musical studies with Cernauti and Suceava, after he continued „Konservatorium fur Musik” in Vienna with Anton Bruckner and Franz Kunst. Between 1873 and 1877 it made theological studies with Cernauti.

In spite of its very short existence, Ciprian Porumbescu left us almost 250 works inspired of the Rumanian folklore. It worked unceasingly: parts for piano, dances Rumanian, rhapsody, chamber music, operetta.

Its activity of prolific type-setter had strong revolutionary implications. Ciprian Porumbescu was a convinced nationalist.

During its youth passed to Vienna it published a “collection of social songs for the Rumanian students”.

Ciprian Porumbescu also wrote the National anthem of the Albanian people, oppressed at the time by the Othomans.
Artist citizen, very popular at the time, Ciprian Porumbescu were a prominent figure of Romania during one time of national effervescence.
