The life of Nicolae Labis can be included/understood only in the context of the time. Its tiller which was often named like genius and the fact that it left an important work even if it lived only 21 years make of him the writer more surprising modern Rumanian literature.

In 1950 Labis takes part has the meeting of the young Moldavian writers, well on it is youngest. Are tiller, its vast culture, imposes it very quickly ; it starts has to publish its poems and becomes literary a " phenomenon" noticed by the writers of the time.

In 1952 it begins the school of literature of Bucharest, which brought together the most gifted pupils of the country.

This school (which indeed followed a Soviet model of school of literature) was very discussed. The truth is that many the young writers were formed over there, and that the place gave a chance to be essential in a literature which strongly suffered from the Soviet influence. Among his colleagues one finds young people who will become important writers like Ion Gheorghe, Radu Cosasu, Florin Mugur, Gheorghe Tomozei.

It is Mihai Sadoveanu, the authority in the field of the time which encouraged the activity of the school.
Indeed, Labis was Bohemia and a mischievous spirit, often admonished by the authority of the school, it lived rather with difficulty the life " organized " of the school and the constraints ideological. Nicolas labis - Bucovine.com Copyright © 2007

Labis writes enormously, it does not manage to publish, in 1954 the communist organization to which belonged, decides to transfer it. It was like an anathema has the time, do not forget that all that occurs in plain Stalinist time post. The decision is not implemented, " the higher " of the party includes/understands its influence on the young people and the possible consequences of this gesture ;

From this period date its cycles of poems " the fight with inertia " and " the bronze age " It translates some poems of Baudelaire into Rumanian ("Your memory in me shone as a ostensoir"Il starts has to work as writer in a literary review, is registered with the faculty of letters which it gives up after first half of the year.

It is in 1956 that it publishes its first collection of poems the first loves and a book for the children " the small stag ". 1956 it is also the year of its accidental death, the morning of December 10, with the day before of Christmas, it struck by a tram, in the center of Bucharest, in front of the Coltea. Hospital, after a long night of festival with unknown girlfriends. All the effort of the doctors are useless, Labis dies on December 22.

Regretted by all the young writers who regards his death as a damnation of their literary generation.
