Nicolae GRIGORESCU

Nicolae Grigorescu, the route of a Rumanian painter, school of Barbizon with impressionism.
(1838 - 1907)

It starts are very young training in (1848), inhabitant in Bucharest, where it worked on icons, painting for the orthodox churches at Baicoi (1853) and Caldarusani (1854-1856), and as a mural painter for 1858-1861) monasteries of Zamfira (1857) and Agapia.

It was at Agapia where Mihail Kogalniceanu made its knowledge. It had to be influential by obtaining to him a subsidy of study of the authorities Moldavian’s (1861), to be able to go to Paris.

Its first years in Paris it passed to the studio of Sebastian Cornu, where Renoir also made its training. It was accustomed to going to the hood for the faces of the children reproducing in the images of Géricault, of Rubens and Rembrandt.

Being haunted with the kind "full air", which prepared the ground with the irruption impressionist school, Grigorescu spent each summer, until 1869, combing in Barbizon and some other places near Paris.
Its paintings exposed to living room of Paris in 1868, Bucharest of the alive artists (in 1870) and with exposures of art of the company "of the Art schools" (1873). In 1873-1874 it leaves in excursion of study in Italy, Vienna, and in Greece.

It joined the troops in war 1877-1878 of independence, and it carries out the diagrams which were to inspire its posterior compositions. One year after the war of independence it paints in France, most of the time in Brittany, at Pane, and with its studio of Paris during twelve years (1879-1890).

After its return, a succession personal exposure would be organized at Rumanian Athenaeum in 1891, 1895, 1900, 1901, 1902, and 1904. It built a house with Campina, which goes to become later the museum "Nicolae Grigorescu". At the dawn of the culture Rumanian modern, one moment launching the poetic genius of Eminescu, the language coloured of Grigorescu became strongly innovative.

The art of the painting of Grigorescu, various while it was, of that of a young mural painter with that of an impressionist, was always on the climax with 20th century, and a long time after its death.

The father of Rumanian painting modern, with Luchian like successors, Grigorescu was the large adored Master by rising generation of the artists, who, beginning of this century, tried to indicate the major richness of the Rumanian heart.

Its French experiment of "sport" matured and has to bring the light in sound work and in making its composition truly rigorous and spontaneous.

Reality in its images is deeply unchanged. "The secret geometry" of the image maintains it unchanged, whereas, in the foreground, the events seem to have place and them colours are confusing. Seizing reality like light changes it was one of the great pleasures of the painter.

In this manner it is never tired with the obvious world. It was not inclined with picturesque research in itself, but to find the depth valid of a reality too common.
