Calistrat Hogas
Born on April 19, 1847 in Tecuci (Moldavie) in the family from the priest Gheorghe Dimitriu. Registered at the nursery school under the name of “Hogas”, the nickname of the large father who will become later his name of writer.

1860-1869 it follows the courses of the Academy “Mihaileana” of Iasi or it binds friendships for all the life with historian A.D. Xenopol and the philosopher Vasile Conta.

After 1869 he becomes professor with the College of Piatra Neamt, marries the girl of a priest and starts to write poems.

After a career of professor enough agitated, marked by conflicts with the leaders of the colleges, he becomes director of the college of Piatra Neamt.

He becomes a close relation of large Rumanian playwright I.L. Caragiale, which occupies at the time a station of inspector of schools in the department of Piatra Neamt.

It is in 1882 that it makes its literary beginning as prosator in the review “Asachi”.

Calistrat Hogas written its memories of the voyages made in the mounts of Neamt. He was a strange character, while travelling on his small horse, which he called “Kitten”, a man of a majestic stature, which carried one
not very usual “sombrero” among the peasants Moldavian and who went everywhere, curious and interested by the least details about the places and the life of the inhabitants.

It is after its death that its book “On the ways of the mountains” prefaced by Mihai Sadoveanu, is published and diffused for general public.

In 1922, with the proposal of Liviu Rebreanu, the Company of the Rumanian Writers
he decree a posthumous price, first literary price of the Rumanian Writers.

From 1939, his/her Sidonia daughter makes visit her house museum of Piatra Neamt. The literary work of Calistrat Hogas makes literary description in details of the places and the places of the marginal area of Bucovine de Sud and of the area of Neamt.
