Gura Humorului

Located in the North-East of Romania, with the junction of the Moldova river with the Humor river, at an altitude of 490 m, in Carpates Eastern.

The town of Gura Humorului is located in Suceava department (Bucovine of the south).

Geographical situation:

• In north: villages “the Monastery of Humor” and “Partesti”.

• In the south: the village “Slatina”

• with L ’ is: the villages “Paltinoasa” and of “valea Moldovei”.

• with L western ’: the village “Frasin”.

• population now: 16.850 inhabitants.
Located in the middle of the peaks, the city is where the ways leave tourist in the close mountain area.

Gura Humorului occupies a surface of 6984 hectares.

• In the north of the city is the peaks D ’ a mountain located enters two tops, known under the name of “Obcina Humorului” and in the south “ Obcina Voronetului “.

• the city is crossed by the river “Moldova” which collects them small rivers of “Humor” and” Voronet “.

History:

• the first documentary certificate date of document medieval the Chancellery of the department of principality of Moldova.

• In 1415 the dignitary “Vornicul Oana” made build L ’ old monastery of Humor, at a distance of 6 km of the current city Stefan Cel Mare gave (like gift) to the monastery of Voronet located very near, the known close field under the name of “Poiana Gura Humorului “
• the document carries the date of November 26, 1490 east attests an exchange of fields between the monastery of Humor and the monastery of Voronet.

• From 1775, place belongs to Bucovine (the part of Moldova which was occupied by  Empire of Hapsburg, and which remained 144 years under foreign domination).

• A this period the forest richnesses and those of under ground are exploited by the Austrians.

• On September 10, 1782 - in Gura Humorului installs the Command Austrian soldier, it begins construction a fortress.

• from 1800 starts with S ’ to install German, of Polish, Jews and Ukrainians. In 1835 the colony of Gura Humorului carries it name of “Bori”.

• 1835 – a telephone line with Vien is installed.

In 1904 the locality becomes officially a city.

Gura Humorului is a center known for the trade of the cattle, cereals.
After December 1, 1918 the city belongs to the new National state Rumanians.

Objectives to be visited:

The Museum ethnography created into 1959 which holds more than 2000 objects which comes from the area. Among the trades which are illustrated: L ’ bee-keeping, pottery, L ’ agriculture, L ’ breeding of the animals, them artisanal textile techniques, ironwork.
The reserve interest scientific: “Complex Lunca Moldovei”.
