Galati

Located at the South East of Romania, with the junction of the Danube with the rivers Siret and Prut, Galati, fifth city of the country with a population of almost 400 000 inhabitants, represents an important industrial center, in the sectors in particular of the iron and steel industry, the shipbuilding's, the textile, the agro-alimentary one. Galati is also a very important port, on the Danube, to 80 km of the Black Sea.

Galati is located at approximately 200 kilometers North-eastern of the Bucharest capital, at the border with the ex-USSR (today Ukraine).

The prosperity of the city, from the XVII 2nd and XVIII 2nd centuries, allowed the foundation of pertaining to worship buildings, whose Church "Précista", donation of the merchants of the towns of Galati and Braila in 1647, is still well preserved.

This ecclesiastical monument is a single architectural work in this part of the country, thanks to its interior fortifications, which confer to him the statute of "citadel" of the old city.

Among the most representative buildings, still existing today, one can quote the Administrative Palate, the Palate of the Children, the Palate of Navigation, the Museum of visual Arts.

Public monumental art is represented by statutes dedicated to the cultural and historical personalities of the city and Romania like Costache Negri and Alexandru Ioan Cuza.

"the Cliff" of the Danube, place of walk at the edge of the river accommodates the Field of the metal Sculptures which give to Galati by its majestic works, an absolute specialty: symbol of an industrial town very turned towards the culture.

The climate is of continental type, with hot and dry summers and windy winters. Because of this climate, the vineyard and in the county Galati to offer some of the best wines of Romania.

The Museum of Rumanian contemporary art, was created in 1956. The collections of the museum contain approximately 3500 of paintings, sculptures, photographs in black and white, the decorative works of art, most invaluable to be signed by the largest Romanian artists.
