Botosani is a city and a Judet district of Romania in Moldavia. Judet is shortened by BO.

Surface: 4965 km².

The department of Botosani is located at north east of Romania enters the Siret rivers has the west and Prut has is, between the borders of Ukraine and of Moldavia.

The current name of the county of Botosani is mentioned, for the first time, in Grigore Ureche "Chronicle and respect events of 1439, when "the Tartars came, plundered and to put on fire at the fair of Botosani "one can notice his medieval architecture.

According to research, the name of the city comes from Botas called boyar which has lived in this area. The most ancient joint of Botosani has as principal symbol a peacock and is registered with the words "joint of Botas honestly ". With a long history, Botosani had, at the same time, one agricultural civilization of blooming as well as a beautiful life urban.

The county preserves, in an authentic museum in the open air, evidence exceptional of last times: rural households, the manors which have belonged to the boyars, the large public buildings and the residences elegant built with sophisticated models architectonic, made ancient churches of wood and customs and the stone traditions.

At the beginning, Botosani was a fair, but it developed very quickly and soon became one of the most important cities of Moldova.

This fact is due to some favourable circumstances, for example, base of a fair (not attraction for much from abroad Armenians, Jews, and Greeks) in a geographical sector located at the crossroads commercial.

Thus, the fair of Botosani brought the great attracting benefit attention of the voïvode of the country. Devotion, love and faith as a God made the Rumanian voïvode to build many churches, traces of an impetuous past which vibrates in the stone walls.

An incredible architectonic richness church, each one with its characteristic history, is connected to the spiritual-cultural aspect of the county of Botosani.

If it there with something of important here which can be regarded as "execution" or "improves work", the "pride" or "of the fame international and national "then this" something "is the culture.

Personalities belonging to all the fields: Sciences, of the art and of culture were constant in Botosani.

The presentation of the tourist sights is of an invitation for all the travellers who like the history of a mysterious ground and those beautiful stories of a particular civilization.

Perhaps the efforts people which like these places to profit cultural transmission, of the traditions, the habits and "the spirit" of Botosani will never be rewarded by the stages for the visitors for one world to be described by our words but by your heart.

Botosani is re-elected for its historic buildings of the time of Rare Etienne the Large one and Petrus, as are the monasteries and them churches Popaula, Uspenia and George Saint.

Among the many monuments of art of Botosani:

- The Theatre "Milhai Eminescu" the largest national poet, translated in 65 languages, known in the whole world.

- The Puppet theatre famous "Vasilache" abroad,

- the Philharmonic orchestra George Enescu, (genius of the music traditional Rumanian), born in Botosani, lived and created in Paris the Rhapsody Rumanian),

- The Museum of Ethnography and the Folklore,

- Native houses of Nicolae Iorga, the largest Rumanian historian, and of Octav Oninescu, the largest Rumanian mathematician.

It is re-elected for its cultural life; it accomodates much of contest and of traditional festivals.
